MUSIC JOURNEY SOUTH INDIA
5 ELEMENTS
Denis Kucherov, Mahesh Vinayakram, Kati Shanti
ABOUT JOURNEY
Most journeys through India focus only on the sights and landmarks. Our retreat offers a completely different kind of experience. Over two weeks, we will journey through the five elements of South India, visit some of its most ancient temples, welcome the New Year at the foot of the sacred Arunachala mountain, and live both by the ocean and in the mountains, immersing ourselves in music, rhythm, breathwork, yoga, and meditation.
The journey is designed so that each new destination naturally flows into the next.
ABOUT TEACHERS

Denis Kucherov and Mahesh Vinayakram have come together to form a unique interdisciplinary duo, weaving movement, rhythm, and live sound into a single artistic experience.
Their collaboration exists at the intersection of embodied awareness and musical expression, where practice becomes performance and sound becomes a space for transformation. Denis brings a deep sensitivity to movement, breath, and inner awareness, while Mahesh skillfully weaves intricate layers of voice and percussion rooted in the classical traditions of South India.
Together, they create immersive journeys where rhythm, silence, and movement interact in real time — an evolving dialogue between body and sound. Their work is not simply meant to be observed, but experienced, inviting participants into a shared space of presence, exploration, and connection.
Mahesh Vinaykram
Mahesh Vinayakram is a Grammy-nominated vocalist in the Carnatic music tradition and the creator of “Karna-Tech” — an innovative style that blends sacred Indian vocals with technology, beatboxing, Bulgarian choirs, and African percussion.
He was the first Indian singer to be invited to perform with the world-renowned Cirque du Soleil and is a recipient of the prestigious UNESCO Millennium Award.
Born into a legendary musical dynasty, Mahesh is the son of Padma Bhushan awardee and ghatam virtuoso Vikku Vinayakram. He began his musical training at an early age and is a senior disciple of Radha Viswanathan, daughter of the legendary M. S. Subbulakshmi and a torchbearer of the Semmangudi bani tradition of Carnatic music.
On international stages, he has performed alongside renowned artists including Ustad Zakir Hussain and Talvin Singh. His musical vision transcends boundaries — bringing ancient traditions together with contemporary innovation and placing Indian classical music in a modern global context.
Denis Kucherov
Denis Kucherov is a tabla virtuoso, composer, producer, and co-founder of the international Dairafest. With more than 20 years of experience, he has performed on renowned stages around the world — from major world and ethnic music festivals across Europe and Asia to prestigious concert halls in India and the UK.
Trained in India by masters of the Sabri tradition, Denis has immersed himself deeply in the art of tabla, raga, and Eastern rhythmic systems. His musical language is a refined balance between ancient rhythmic knowledge and free improvisation, between acoustic purity and contemporary electronic sound design.
He has collaborated with legendary artists including Grammy Award winner Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Padma Shri awardee Shahid Parvez, as well as musicians from Turkey, Africa, Cuba, and the Middle East. His performances include Sziget (Hungary), Ragasthan (India), WOMAD (Australia), and Ethnoport (Poland).
Kati Shanti
Kati Shanti began practicing yoga at the age of 16 and today has more than 20 years of experience in both practicing and teaching yoga around the world. She has studied yoga extensively in India, Germany, Spain, and other countries, drawing inspiration from teachers including Rolf and Marci Naujokat, Ana Forrest, and José Calarco.
Kati is a certified Hatha Yoga and Pranayama teacher, as well as a certified Yin, Prenatal, and Postnatal Yoga teacher.
She is the founder of Georgia’s first international yoga community and two studios: Tbilisi Yoga Loft (2020) and Tbilisi Yoga Villa (2022), as well as Yoga Loft Academy, where more than 50 teachers have been trained.
At the heart of her teaching is mindful practice and awareness of the self. A class can be completely quiet and meditative, incorporating breathwork, or it can evolve into a dynamic Ashtanga practice and more intensive physical work.
